Keep the cover file and the mint record in the same envelope
A digital cover is two objects: the image you look at, and the record that says which number you hold. Losing one makes the other harder to explain.
We still post a paper ledger for UK commissions. It is not nostalgia; it is a second copy of the edition table when a wallet password is forgotten. The ledger lists each number, the mint hash, and the date. The cover file itself is delivered as a high-resolution PNG with the fraction already in the art, plus a smaller file for screens.
Collectors sometimes store the image in a photos library and the mint details in an email. Years later the email is gone. A provenance sitting is usually the work of putting those two back together and checking they still match.
If you buy a reserved drop number, we send the same pack: image, hash, paper. Do not crop the edition bug out of the image to “clean it up” for a frame. The bug is how the file admits what it is.
